TOURS AND EXCURSIONS: ![]() Tortuguero National Park. The 19,000 hectare park is one of the most varied with its 11 ecological habitats. Fronting the sea you find an endless expanse of beach. Behind that is a narrow lagoon, and backed by rainforest threaded by an infinite maze of serpentine channels. Tortuguero shelters a fabulous array of wildlife, including more than 300 bird species, among them the great green macaw. And then there are the hawks, jaguars, tapirs, giant iguanas, caimans, crocodiles, marine turtles, monkeys with their hair-raising roar...! Don't forget, too: An aficionado of turtle life-cycles can indulge his passion twice a year. The first turtle phenomena comes with the ponderous, difficult arrival of the female as she excavates a hole high on the beach, deposits and covers her eggs, and makes her heavy, fatigued way back into the ocean. The second comes some weeks later as dozens of tiny hatchlings craw out of the sand to return to the sea. It is quite common to see thousands of baby turtles on the beach at once during these hatch-outs. ![]() About 50,000 tourists a year come here to explore the forest and swamps. There are no cars in Tortuguero so your options for some of the best wildlife viewing opportunities in the country will be on foot or from a quiet boat (four-stroke motor/electric motor or canoe). Tortuguero offers such incomparable beauty that you can't resist trying to capture it in photos to re-live the moments when you get back home. ![]() Gandoca-Manzanillo National Wildlife Refuge. ![]() This is one of the greatest areas of the country, and it is closed to you! The refuge's coast consist of emerged coral reef extending as much as 200 meters into the sea, with gently sloping white sand beaches and few waves due to the shallowness of the coast. The largest part of the refuge is covered in forest. South of Mona Points beach there is a 400-hectare swamp basically made up of holillo palms and Gandoca estuary mainly consisting of red mangrove. The refuge, with his varied birdlife, protects various animal species that are threatened with extinction in Costa Rica, such as baird's tapir, the crocodile and marine turtles.
![]() Cahuita National Park . ![]() The Park was created to protect the flora and wildlife, the coral reef and several sea ecosystems. It is the most developed reef of the Caribbean Coast : 35 coral species, 140 mollusks, 44 crustacean, 128 algaes and 123 fish species -angel queen fish, blue parrot fish, barracuda, remora, manta ray, morena, three different kind of sharks, sea cucumber, lobster, sponge, white shrimp, the green turtle and the carey turtle...you could find yourself swimming with them! As for wildlife on land, it is very common to see kongos and white faced monkeys, raccoons, nutrias, iguanas, pizotes. Bri Bri waterfalls, indigenous culture and traditions. ![]() Let yourself be captured by the authentic spirit of indigenous people here! Jump into their waterfalls, feel energy of nature, discover Bri Bri tribal dances, medicinal herbs, biological plantations, handicraft.

If you like to read on the beach or on your Villa lanai, put your favourite book into your suitcase. Above all, bring with you light luggage and don't forget... a laid back attitude!!
